First of all a warm welcome to Exclusive Roots. Just to explain Exclusive Roots  is the trading arm of the UK registered charity Tabeisa (Charity Number 1122090). For the past sixteen years Tabeisa has been working  with people based in disadvantaged communities in Africa to support the development of small businesses and social enterprises. To date we are really pleased to have supported the development of over 2000 small businesses in some of the poorest communites in Sub Saharan Africa. In 2008 the work of Tabeisa was recognised by the award of a Queen's Anniversary Prize for "tackling the root causes of poverty".

One of the problems for people based in poor communities is access to markets. Tabeisa looked at many ways to support people to access export markets but often the produders were not receiving a fair price for their products. Then one day a group of Tabeisa supported business owners just said can we not have a Tabeisa trading activity that will help us to access markets overseas and make sure we get a fair price?  So Exclusvie Roots was born - although it was quite a difficult birth!

So we started with a shop at Hatton near Warwick and then we moved to Leamington Spa. We then started the website and in 2009 we opened our shop on the Woodstock Road in Oxford. All our products are from Africa and we are totally committed to ensuring a fair price for our producers. In fact we are so committed to this that we have worked together with our producers in Africa to establish a transparent pricing system called Fairshare. This is the first fairtrade policy that uses this approach and guarantees the producer a fairshare of the final retail price ensuring that the " profit" is fairly shared down the supply chain.  We are proud to be a BAFTS (British Association of Fairtrade Shops) accredited importer. All the income generated through Exclusive Roots is reinvested into Tabeisa to support the social and economic development of poor communities in Africa.
